Some hope in a bleak period of glad tidings.

In 2013, Kahana, maintained long and close contact with the Syrian opposition who have now overthrown Assad, went to’ Jobar Synagogue in Damascus,’, took out various artefacts, including an ancient Torah scroll. He left a note inside the synagogue, December 2013.The  plan is to visit Damascus, returning ‘Jobar’s sefer Torah’, re-open the synagogue, “putting its mezuzah back” Also looking at what needs to be done to bring it back to life.

“Syrian Jews will want to return to the country”, so that even though there is only a handful of Jews still in Syria, it is important to restore synagogues for those who are going back. Kahana said the delegation planned to visit around five synagogues in and around Damascus. The business leaders on his delegation will be looking at potential investment in the country, something he believes will be welcomed by the new government.

. . . she got a postcard in the mail
That just said Heaven, with a picture of the ocean and the beach
The simple words he wrote her
Said he loved her
How he'd hold her if his arms would reach
Wish you were here, wish you could see this place
Wish you were near,Wish I could touch your face
The weather's nice, it's paradise
It's summertime all year and there's some folks we know
They say, "Hello, "
I miss you so, wish you were here"
