the new football season

It arrived that Saturday when men stop sulking in corners
When family’s start the season long arguments
The friendships
Unnecessary windups
The put downs
Funny chants
Silly behaviour
Believing that it most important thing in the world
Accepting that Hull City are not the world’s greatest
Stupid songs we sing
Scarves we wear
Polyester fashion gear
Daft coulers
Pretty crap tasting pies
Warm beer
Unpop pop drinks
Long tired evenings on busses and trains all over the country
Odd sermon littered with football banter
Radio debates
Questioning parenthood of male fellow in black
Wins
Defeats
Life lessons think learn

Football…a new season…

MAYBE WE WON`T MEET AGAIN

. . . she got a postcard in the mail
That just said Heaven, with a picture of the ocean and the beach
The simple words he wrote her
Said he loved her
How he'd hold her if his arms would reach
Wish you were here, wish you could see this place
Wish you were near,Wish I could touch your face
The weather's nice, it's paradise
It's summertime all year and there's some folks we know
They say, "Hello, "
I miss you so, wish you were here"
