I was dreamin' in my dreamin'
Of an aspect bright and fair
And my sleepin' it was broken
But my dream it lingered near
Of an aspect bright and fair
And my sleepin' it was broken
But my dream it lingered near
In the form of shinin' valleys
Where the pure air recognized
Oh, and my senses newly opened
And I awakened to the cry
Where the pure air recognized
Oh, and my senses newly opened
And I awakened to the cry
And the people have the power
To redeem the work of fools
From the meek the graces shower
It's decreed the people rule
To redeem the work of fools
From the meek the graces shower
It's decreed the people rule
People have the power
Patti Smith - People Have The Power Lyrics |
Patti Smith was always attracted to anthemic aspect of rock & roll, and her election year return to action was this hopeful song, a good pop/rock tune with a strong hook. The 12-inch single contained two songs on Side B: "Where Duty Calls," also featured on the Dream of Life album, which reflects on the October 1983 terrorist attack on the Marine barracks in Beirut, and the non-LP "Wild Leaves," a moody ballad.
The people have the power
Play it
Play it loud
