more about my heaven

Devotion does not only express itself during these summer festas. The springtime Holy Week in Malta prominently exhibits the more sombre, reflective side to Maltese religious rites. Processions re-enacting the Passion of the Christ in full Jewish and Roman regalia, reminiscent of the Andalucian 'Semana Santa' celebrations, are held in many villages, such as in the southern villages of Zejtun, Zebbug and Qormi, or the Three Cities of Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Senglea. The Mosta celebrations are also particularly spiritual, where both children and adults participate in the long Good Friday procession which weaves around the narrow village streets, each member in detailed costumes and carrying a symbolic item related to the Passion. Many exquisitely hand-crafted statues are also carried around on the shoulders of devoted lay people, each one representing a particular religious figure or biblical scene. Many procession-goers involve themselves by dressing up in darker colours, often dragging chains or carrying symbolic crosses in a public show of repentance, whilst several parish clubs host immersive in-house exhibitions where the smell of incense, along with the sculptures, paintings and religious paraphernalia, really gets one into the true reflective mood of the Holy Week. Spirituality of this calibre is hard to be rivalled anywhere else in Europe.

MAYBE WE WON`T MEET AGAIN

. . . she got a postcard in the mail
That just said Heaven, with a picture of the ocean and the beach
The simple words he wrote her
Said he loved her
How he'd hold her if his arms would reach
Wish you were here, wish you could see this place
Wish you were near,Wish I could touch your face
The weather's nice, it's paradise
It's summertime all year and there's some folks we know
They say, "Hello, "
I miss you so, wish you were here"
