THE seaside community of Easington Colliery will this weekend unite to mark the 60th anniversary of a pit disaster - one of the blackest days in County Durham's mining history.
It was just before dawn on May 29,1951, that a pit explosion wiped out the lives of 81 men and boys from the village.
Two rescue workers would also die during the harrowing retrieval of the bodies.
"Even today the events of the day are remembered by people - especially the families of the 83 who lost their lives.
"We may not have the colliery any more but we do have the community. The 60th anniversary services allow us all to remember these men."
A service will start at the Community Memorial Garden, on the site of the former colliery, at 11am on Sunday.
The garden will be rededicated by the Bishop of Jarrow The Right Reverend Mark Bryant and an address will be given by Alan Cummings, Easington National Union of Mineworkers Lodge Secretary.
A procession, accompanied by Easington Colliery Band, will then make its way to the Church of Ascension for the Commemoration Service, starting at 11.30am.
After the church service, the congregation will proceed to the Miners' Mass Grave site, in Easington Colliery Cemetery, for a further Memorial Service at 12.45pm. Floral tributes will be laid and another miner's lamp will be unveiled to representing the 60th anniversary. The service will end at 1.15pm followed by refreshments at the Colliery Club.

At 4.45am on the 29th May 1951, the night shift at the Colliery were at the end of their shift and the fore shift men were just coming down to start theirs. A spark at the coal face ignited a pocket of gas and the blast lifted coal dust which fuelled and explosion creating a fire ball which smashed and scorched its way through 16,000 yards of underground workings.

"Why Am I Afraid to Tell You Who I Am?"
"Why Am I Afraid to Tell You Who I Am?" by John Powell.
I really love this book, not that expensive,it is one of my favourite books. I recommend a quick read because it will get your heart bringing your soul in touch with your you.The words are powerful, heartful and emotional. It could motivate you to being better person.
I am afraid to tell you who I am, because, if I tell you who I am, you may not like who I am,
a comman mistake made by many teanagers
they feel like no one can like them
yet they often do not relise we already love them just as they are
"Why Am I Afraid to Tell You Who I Am?"

That`s a question! take a look at where you are now!
ask yourself
in best Dylan voice

SOMETIMES
SOMETIMES IT GOOD TO SHARE AND EXPERIENCE YOUR OWN VULNERABILITY
OTHER TIMES IT JUST NOT ENOUGH TO BE OPEN TO ALL
IT A TYPE OF THERAPY THAT'S A BIT OVER RATED

instead of being here
this is where l would like to be now
sailing across the med from cercewra to mgrra
l am feeling vulnerable and due to not having a role
the days appear long
that very unusual for me
taking longer walks
lost a bit of direction
this is all level 5
but feel can be honest about this being unemployed
despite what others especially the media project
it not hippy drippy
it serious dispiriting experience

on the buses
another serious bus crash in Zejtun Malta
a beautiful country blighted by difficult bus and other road issues
Ironically the traffic lights at Tal-Barrani, which is just 30 seconds drive away from where this accident happened, were out of order for most of the time recently. Very dangerous potholes in my view have surfaced months and even years ago, still remain un-repaired.
add to this Careless drivers still do what they want as no action is taken almost everytime an accident occurs.
Bus, 4 cars, crash in Mgarr this time across the water in Gozo
Don't jump to conclusions, this was truly a genuine accident, it seems that the bus developed some engine trouble and thank God truly, that the driver was a very good cause if he didn't turn the bus to the wrong side of the road, thus hitting the wall it would have fallen on the other side and the height there is more than 20 meters.

people are strange
someone has been trying to connect with me
they unlike others have not been very successful
so they make rude and threatening comments
if l don't reply then and at that time to their E-mails/fonecalls
they are offensive
dig up past and remind me of their view on mistakes
she feels l made......
when l examined the e-mails -comments
she . . . .it is a female..
well don't know if she knows but been sending communication then...answering own communication
it becomes a dialogue between that person and herself
in a very famous film someone said
if he loved you with all his soul for
all his life
he could not love you as much as l did
for one single day
that a true quote, anyway hope to talk to my friend real soon

Queens visit to Dublin
Around 100 Republican demonstrators attempted to disrupt the first day of the historic State visit clashing with police as she laid a wreath at a garden of remembrance.
But on Tuesday night, Mr Hague said the overwhelming response of the Irish people had been welcoming, representing the strength of the relationship which existed between the two countries.
Speaking alongside his Irish counterpart Eamon Gilmore, Mr Hague said: “What struck me was the number of people out on the streets waving and smiling and cheering and so that has shown a very strong and warm welcome today."
lorentus tried to steal a pigeon from a shop
why he needed to do this l will never know.
except l have been young and foolish
daft things like others l have done.
The consciences for him
were real,
1 threat of prison
2 Visit from the police
3 severe beating from dad
4 stern chat from myself
few days later a rather subdued Lorentus
left Criaova for Chalvey UK

life is tuff
someone reminded me of a quote about getting old being no game for sissies
in another place l spoke about the rise of wayside testimonies to persons who have passed on
Such are common in Malta
my father is very ill
he has been ill for many years
he for the last 2 months he only been able been fed thru a tube into his stomach
Andy daughter is 14 months old, she is fed the same way
perhaps life is not as hard for myself as l sometimes imagine
all around are signs of summer
new birth
new hope
promises of better time and better days ahead
the sun across the fields
fields of gold
ahead days of Gold
hope
fun
love
laughter
struggles
some pain
more tears
life is tough
hard journey
the road is travelled by us all wether 14 months or 73
they say the good things is we don`t know whats ahead
but life as well as being tuff is loads of fun
yes thats it loads of fun
if its a struggle for you at present and you do not wanna contact me
know l think of you as l write this

After loads of time in the garden it does not look any different and still loads more to do.

That song ...Joshua Keddison ..`Jessie`.
"Baby, I've been thinking about a trailer by the sea
We could go to Mexico; you, the cat and me
We'll drink tequila and look for seashells
Now doesn't that sound sweet"

Power
A sunny day in on the north east coast UK, yet the sea has such power
and we are still only now getting used to harnessing this formation.
Today l was reading a commentary on Matthew 15 v 31-39 and how God power is something we forget about.
The writer Lucas was telling me to rely on Gods blessing and promises from past, both recent and decades ago.
My Faith to meet bills, work for him. to cope with personal issues.
Well it doesn't fail. But worries become more composed then they should be?
